Reflective Activity


1. Instructions: Choose the correct verb to complete the text about Houdini.

When she met him in 1893 he was just doing small card tricks. But Bess suggested he concentrate on his escape acts and he soon became one of the greatest escape artists ever.  Ss will be improve their speaking skill and also how to use modals of speculation. The only reason for do that is Ss have to work hard and as a teacher give the tools for increase their knowledge.
Introduction: Get Ss in a context for using and talking modals of speculation.
Teacher Think Aloud: Promote strategies and techniques to acquire a good learning.
Guided Practice: should be able to perform the task and be held accountable for the lesson's information and the teacher provide focused support for individuals needing extra help to reach the learning.

We use the following modal verbs to speculate about the present:
 
 

¢Must – to express a strong conviction that something is / was true.

    He drives a Ferrari. He must be rich.

¢May / might / could – to express a possibility that something is / was true.

    Why don’t you ask him? He might / could / may   know the answer.

¢May not / might not – to express a possibility that something isn’t / wasn’t true.

    It might not be the right number.

¢Can’t – to express a strong conviction that something isn’t / wasn’t true.

    You ate 5 minutes ago. You can’t be hungry now.
